Bama Men Take Three of Four at Auburn University Tournament
The University of Alabama men’s wheelchair basketball team entered the Auburn University Tournament presented by Coca-Cola with a 10-3 record in NWBA Intercollegiate Division play.
They left with a 13-4 record in division play after winning
three of four games at the tournament.
The Crimson Tide opened the tournament with a 52-22 win over
the University of Missouri on the morning of Feb. 2 behind a game high 19
points by sophomore Tim Houston on 9-of-15 shooting.
After holding Missouri to 14 points on 7/23 (30.4 percent) shooting
from the field in the first half, the Crimson Tide held the Tigers to 8 points
on 3/24 (12.5 percent) shooting from the field in the second half.

Later that day, Alabama suffered a 77-68 loss to the
University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.
Wisconsin-Whitewater led by seven points, 46-39, at halftime
and increased its lead by outscoring Alabama 31-29 in the second half.
Houston had a double-double with 21 points and a game-high 15 rebounds
in the loss. Senior Parthasarathi Venkatram added 22 points, and freshman Gabe Taylor had
11 points.
Wisconsin-Whitewater senior Thomas Oberst had a game-high 41
points on 16/24 shooting from the field, including 5/8 on three-point attempts.
Alabama bounced back the following early afternoon with a
60-46 win over the University of Illinois behind another double-double
performance by Houston, 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Venkatram had 15 rebounds in the win, and Taylor had 12
points.
Alabama wrapped up their tournament later that afternoon
with a 63-47 win over the host Auburn University behind another double-double
performance by Houston, 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Taylor had 15 points and nine rebounds in the win. junior Eric Francis had 11 points and seven rebounds. Venkatram had seven points and ten rebounds.
Alabama has a standalone non-division game against the ABC
Medical Legends on Feb. 23 as part of the UA Online Invitational before
wrapping up the regular season with a pair of games each against Missouri and Auburn at the Hollister Classic at home at Stran-Hardin Arena on March 1 and 2.
Then Alabama will head to the NWBA Intercollegiate Men’s
Wheelchair Basketball National Championship Tournament at Southwest Minnesota
State University on March 13-16 where the team will be looking for its second consecutive national championship and fifth overall.
