Throughout this academic year/season, I will use this blog to share news and follow the developments of the Alabama Adapted Athletics program.

Wheelchair/adapted athletics is an interest and passion of mine, and prior to enrolling as an MBA student at the University of Alabama last fall (for a two-year program), I spent 5.5 years as a professional newspaper reporter from the Houston Chronicle Media Group (I also was born and raised in Houston).

This is a hobby/side project to cover a highly successful program within an interest area of mine, and to make use of my journalism experience.

I do not have a specific plan or vision for this blog other than being a valuable source for information on the Alabama Adapted Athletics program. So, we will see where this heads and how it unfolds.

I'm excited to go on this journey and to have you along for it!

Zach Smith Takes Over as the New Operations Coordinator for Alabama Adapted Athletics

 Zach Smith is the new Operations Coordinator for the Alabama Adapted Athletics program having started the job in mid-November. Despite having no prior experience with adapted athletics, both Smith and program director Brent Hardin agree that he is the ideal person to take on the job duties. Smith had worked most recently as an operations intern for the Birmingham Barons Minor League Baseball organization and before that had been a lead marketing intern for University of Alabama at Birmingham athletics while finishing up his degree in Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management from Troy University. Up Next for Alabama Men: the National Tournament

The University of Alabama men’s wheelchair basketball team finished the 2023-2024 regular season with 20-6 overall record and a 13-4 record in Intercollegiate Division play. Those four division losses are twice as many as the Crimson Tide had last regular season, but the team is on a three-game win streak in college play going into the NWBA National Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Intercollegiate Tournament, which will take place on March 14-16 at Southwest Minnesota State University.
